Tiedowns are a vertical construction element that is used to actively apply tensile loads to structures. Tiedowns can be used in new construction or to remediate existing structures. Tiedowns can be constructed out of strands of cable or reinforcing bar grouted into the soil. Tiedowns are installed vertically and are used in a wide variety of applications. Tiedowns are typically permanent utilizing a double or triple corrosion protection system. Typical applications include the use in retaining walls to resist overturn forces, use in foundations to resist uplift forces, and for structures such as water tanks to resist movement in seismic events.
